Gianni Savelli
Que la fête commence
As for inertia, I push myself to a point that intentionally is not the extreme point I could reach at that moment, but just a little behind.
Of course, it can happen to complete from beginning to end in just one shot. But, if the initial idea has something valuable, we can say the composition is done. I leave it there to marinate for a few days.
I think about it, and I come to play it only to verify if it can bring me back to that moment anytime I play it back.
If so, it becomes like a seed that only awaits for the right conditions to sprout.
Since that moment, it has become an absolute obsession that lingers constantly. But despite this, I let it settle.
I do that also because I know that the moment I decide to complete the piece, the obsessive psychosis could get out of control.
In parallel, what has been evoked by that fragment takes a visual or, better, visionary form in my mind.
That those images that somebody could even narrate cinematically have an explicit connection with the starting point is secondary.
As if in dreams, what we see is not necessarily something intelligible by logic, but certainly, it pairs it symbolically and emotionally.
So, a story takes life. It is a short story made up of a few elements that, for me, and only for me, perfectly trace the music. Then, the music must follow coherently.
This play of back and forth between the story and the music helps me proceed detachedly without losing contact with the original emotion but without sliding to sentimentalism.
As the story continues, the music follows suit. Upon reaching the end, I make a mark. In a sense, it is the music that creates itself.
